Search and Being Number 1 on Google

Ok, so, Google works by looking at the site text, the links to it, and then gives it a ranking and if you’re high, you’re Number 1.

Except, it hasn’t done that since 2009.

Personalised results, aka Search Engine Optimisation doesn’t work they you think it does

Google uses what it knows about you – from location, browsing history, cookies, and god knows what else, (your gmails?) etc to try and work out which results will be the ones you want.

Example – I’m in the UK. If I type “Birmingham” into Google, I get nothing except results for Birmingham, England. If I lived in Alabama I would probably get results for Birmingham, Alabama.

So, there is NO NUMBER 1. There is potentially a different top page of results for every person who searches.

And browsing history has a big impact – pages in your history that are a good match, will be seriously favoured.

So, you see that you are top. Someone with a lot in common – fans, friends, location, industry, interests, might see you somewhere. But someone in another country, with no previous interest, might not see you at all.

Want to see your real place in search results?

On your PC create a brand new user account. Go to google and start running the searches you think matter. See what turns up.

What does this mean?

First up – it means you can’t tell how good your Search Engine Optimisation is, because every time you check, your own site is registered by Google as being the result you want. So, soon, it is. You THINK you have optimised your results, and you have. For YOU. Not for anyone else.

So, “this means you can’t rely on Google bringing you visitors?”. Correct. These days, you need to promote direct, not rely on Google.

If you can get your fans followers to visit your site, that will push your site up in the results for them. So, always tweet your link. This is why the Catalogue is so useful – every time you promote content, you use the direct link, even if the actual page says “to buy this, it’s on my OnlyFans….”.

So, how to get high in the results?

All you can do is the basics, and the basics are :-

Site text, site URLs and site map. And real incoming links.

Anything else, these days, is likely to backfire and get google to demote you.

IMPORTANT REALITY CHECK – no one can promise that your site will be high in the results for anyone apart from you. If one of your criteria for hiring a web designer is “get me high in the search results”, you are being unrealistic and heading for disappointment.

Site Text

Don’t try any funny stuff – Google provides free translation – so padding like, “porn porn porn sex sex escort escort escort” is spotted by Google as “Fake” and will DAMAGE your position.

This means you need to think about what words really matter. In most of my client cases, across the site, that would be escort and porn. So, “Book Me” becomes “Book Me : Escort”. Your content listings should have descriptive titles like “Maid Dirty Sue fucks Bad Butler in the Bathroom, porn scene”.

Site page/post URLs

On wordpress, if you change the title of an existing page, you can also edit the URL via the dashboard. If you change any URLS you will break any links to those pages, so check the front page links and menus, to be sure.

Real Incoming Links

Wherever you can, link to your site. BUT, they must be real. Adding it to your Twitter Bio, is genuine, so is linking to it from your platforms. Doing 500 tweets about “my new site”, isn’t. Basic rule – never pay for links and never do “I’ll link to you if you link to me”.

Site Map (or Fetch as Google)

If you have a Google account AND you own the domain, you can submit the site to Google.

And if I relax?

Google should find the site in a few weeks, and once it finds it, checks it every several weeks.

Our Service

We optimise the Site Text and Site URLs for all website clients. This is usually done once the site’s main pages are finished.

Site Map and Links, only you can do those.
