New Social Media Project

You might have seen my tweets about my Fantasy Social Media project.

It was very much that, but with Twitter going crazy and quite possibly about to become hostile to us, I’m taking it more seriously. I’m working on the Dev Path document, which is the final step before costing it…

The idea behind this Social Media is that EVERYONE can take part, because the User Controls mean that people don’t see stuff they don’t like, AND it’s designed to make on line hating hard. You can hate, but if you do, you effectively self mute yourself 🙂

So, Kentucky Christians can be happy on here, as can Pride Planners, and neither gets to bother the other.

It is essential to realise that this is NOT about creating a SM for SW, it’s about creating a SM for mainstream, but which, by intent is SW friendly and by design is able to avoid the “boot the perverts” pressure that the big corporate SM suffer from.

Key Features

Fremium Model – it’s free for most users, but with extra features for those who pay.

This is the ONLY way an SW friendly SM can operate. By the users who can financially benefit, paying for it. As soon as your revenue model is “lets get big companies to pay to advertise or buy data”, you can’t be SW friendly. Even Twitter is seeing big brands suspend their ads (time of writing, due to blue tick chaos).

So, our revenue will be twofold :-

a) Users who are not commercial, but value the platform enough to pay for some aspects, such as long term content storage. A typical user here would be an artist/blogger who has content issues with Instagram.

b) Users who are essentially small businesses, and value the tools we provide to deliver messages direct to their followers and fans. Think “DM ALL my Followers”. Think unrestricted links out.

All while MOST users, pay nothing.

Content Type – long form is allowed, inc text, photos and video.

Content Duration – free users, posts delete after a month. Paid users, post stay as long as needed, (OR can have a shorter deadline, e.g. a time limited offer).

Content Rules – anything UK legal, so long as reflects your Profile settings. If you allow an All Ages audience and post 15+ material, we’ll have issues. Otherwise, you just need to follow your local law.

Outbound Link Rules – no limits, so long as reflects your Profile settings.

Content can be Liked, Importanted (for when Like isn’t enough), Boosted, Sanctioned, and Replied to.

Sanctioned : a set of anti hate tools. If multiple people Sanction a post, it gets deleted. If you sanction a rude DM, the senders account to to jail for a while. Users that get too many Sanctions, end up in solitary, where no one can seem rant. (Reporting will exist, but is for illegal stuff).

Post Types will range from Public, or Restricted (followers only) to Fans Only or Group posts, and Private (aka DM’s), and Bulk DMs (paid accounts only. Reach your 10,000 followers all at once.)

Bots, Trolls, Age and Identity Verification : a set of tools that allow users to verify themselves to whatever level they wish. And users to EXCLUDE those who choose not to. So, if you choose to “require users be proven human” then “RandomAndy7546789999887” will not be able to see you or your content. And you certainly won’t get aggressive DM’s from “him”.

Initially we expect most people will verify to “Proven Human” (which is an anonymous process), but as the legal landscape changes, most adults will choose to Verify Age (still an anonymous process) and those who want to build extra trust – e.g. because they are local politician or entertainer, or using us as a platform to promote their Etsy – will Verify ID.
