Publish your own Newsletter

WHY

Because when you lose you social media, (which everyone does, as the rules keep changing), or get platform booted, THESE are the fans you’ll be able to reach fast. Plus all the usual direct selling and marketing stuff 🙂

Remember : People you reach via a platform, are the platform’s clients, and can vanish at the push of a button. People you reach via Social Media, belong to the social media. Only your direct contacts are yours.

Feb – a friend just lost her Twitter and Insta. All those followers, gone.

HOW (TLDR : It’s part of your website)

Various options, but I want to keep this simple.

DO NOT just ask people to DM you their email and then save it on your PC so you can Blind Copy them in a home made approach.

DO NOT sign up to third party solutions like Mail Chimp. This is perfectly fine for most businesses but mostly they T&C ban adult, and if there are US based (most are), they also worry about SESTA/FOSTA. And the moment they kill your account, you probably lose everything, all those hard won addresses (unless you saved diligently).

DO NOT cut corners with a simple “give us your email” form and a Php Script to send the mail. This does work in theory, but in practice now, almost all your mail will be flagged a spam and won’t get through

DO :-

Via your own SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server

THIS IS HOW TO DO IT!. Which is why we provide it as standard for everyone we build websites for.

It’s also a complete pain to DIY it – you need a web host that lets you have one and look forward to making a LOT of detailed DNS changes, setting up a Cron and other fun and games:-)

Newsletter Type and Frequency

Text : Good for short punchy ones you don’t want to spend much time working on.

HTML : Much better looking. Use where possible.

How often should you send?

  • If you send too often, people switch off.
  • If you don’t send often enough, people switch off.
  • If people switch off, some mail systems (hi there gmail) will start dumping them in folders that no one looks at, or even spam.

Er…..

You have to use your judgement. Which will partly depend on the details of your business. My view would be (if you are a creator uploading new video every weekish) to send one to announce each new decent length video, and just tack onto it anything else you need to mention. Escorts, maybe announce tours, or anything unusual.

Newsletter Automation

Don’t do it. Your business is about the personal touch. Your fans and clients want to know that YOU are taking the trouble to create the newsletter.

This can be as simple as one line introducing a new video such as, “I met Bad Butler last week, and we had a lot of fun, as you can see. We also included the blooper where he spilt the drink over me!”

So, don’t automate.

Commitment

Do NOT over commit.

Try and pick a schedule you can stick to. If you aren’t sure, start with simply when you have something to say, but in this industry most people should think about sometime between weekly and monthly.
